Facebook must remove false Conservative attack ads: NDP

The NDP has written to Facebook to request the removal of new Conservative attack ads which are riddled with misinformation. The Conservatives launched the new ads on May 26.

With Andrea Horwath rising in the polls and growing momentum, the Conservatives have focused their attacks on the NDP, the one party that threatens their majority.

With their latest Facebook attack ads, the Conservatives are exclusively targeting the rising threat of the NDP and have not let facts get in the way of their desperation.

In one example, the Conservatives make false claims about the NDP’s commitment to building a new Ottawa Civic Hospital. The NDP fully supports a new Ottawa Civic Hospital, with a long commitment to the hospital with underground parking, as further reported by the Ottawa Citizen on May 16 2022:

“What do your parties say, to the lack of consultation on the Civic parking garage,” said Harden, addressing the Liberal and PC candidates. “That is not what we need — we need health care, not 2,500 spaces.”

In another example, the Conservatives make false claims about the NDP’s support of affordable seniors’ housing. As reported by Guelph Today on October 30 2020, “Councillor Diane Ballantyne… said she supports increased seniors’ housing options”. NDP candidate Ballantyne is clearly fighting for affordable seniors’ housing for all, not just for those able to afford high-end suites.
